CLAY HANDBUILDING CLASSES FOR CHILDRENStudents, 5 years of age and older, will complete two different clay forms each month using the Slab, Coil and Pinch methods of clay handbuilding. Each student will be able to develop their own style and decorative designs by pressing different shapes and textures into the clay or by hand painting their own designs on their clay forms with underglazes. New clay forms will be introduced each session and returning students are encouraged to work at a more advanced level. The teacher, Mrs. Gail Hazlehurst, has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with emphasis in pottery and has taught clay handbuilding for the past 28 years. She will provide instruction, clay, boards, rolling pins, brushes, design tools, glazes and underglazes and two kiln firings. The objectives of the class are to encourage individual creativity and improve the fine motor skills of the children participating in the class. The monthly fee is $35 ( $8.75 per one hour class) and classes are offered one day per week for one month for a total of four one hour classes per month. More classes can be added on at $8.75 per one hour class for as many as you would like. Parent and child classes can also be arranged. I can bring the classes to your school, home, art museum or recreation center. A minimum of 20 students is required. To reserve space please call Mrs. Gail Hazlehurst at 239-6315.
